Vision
The peace and beauty of Kagera Region, located in the north-west of Tanzania, was tragically damaged when HIV/AIDS first broke out in 1982/83. In response to the immense need left behind by this epidemic, NEHEMIA Christian Aid Foundation established the Kemondo Children’s Home (KCH) in 1993.
The Homes
KCH consists of eight family houses providing a loving home for orphaned or needy children between two and fifteen years old. Each house is taken care of by two guardians, and KCH currently has capacity for 120 children (60 boys and 60 girls). In addition to a home and education, life skills such as working in the garden, keeping animals, domestic chores are taught so that they can be prepared for an independent future.
Education at Bethania Primary School
In 2000 Kemondo orphan children’s home established Bethania primary school with the goal of providing quality Christian education through a Christian environment for their children. Every morning there is a one-hour church service followed by regular church service on Sundays. Christians are respected in the region and parents gladly send their children to this project’s own school.
Bakery & Electro Handicraft Businesses
The project also operates its own bakery which supplies fresh bread daily to both the school and orphanage while training baker apprentices under supervision from a Swiss master baker. There is also an electro handicraft business which trains students to become electricians as well as carpenter and bricklayer apprenticeships.
